Eels

Good morning,

The Week Don from NIWA came to teach us about Eels.

Here are 10 facts I learnt.


  1. Eels can swim backwards.
  2. There is an Australian long fin eel.
  3. Long Fin Eels hide most off the time in the day then lunge out at their prey.
  4. The Long fin Eel  has teeth going backwards. 
  5. At night they can go on land.
  6. The short fin Eels eat crabs.
  7. The short fin Eels live by the coast that is  why they eat crabs.
  8. You can rip out an Eels ear bone to see how old It is by the lines.
  9. You have to kill the Eel to see how old it is.
  10. All Eels go to toga to breed.


This is an 2m long Eel that he caught in lake Ellesmere
